Cuban cigars are famous all over the world and it is precisely in Viñales that they are produced! We will feel like we are in a scene from a film: us, riding a horse , surrounded by immense tobacco plantations and accompanied by local growers... in short, it will truly be an experience we have never had before! In the morning we will go to see the Mural de la Prehistoria (the largest outdoor painting in Latin America). Then we will spend the day enjoying the sun and the sea , or taking long walks to reach the mangrove forests that grow directly on the sea: the perfect photographic set for breathtaking stories to make colleagues in the office envious. In the evening we return to Viñales where we can discover the famous Cuban hospitality and take advantage of it to be taught a few salsa steps!

From Pinar del Rio to Cienfuegos

Pinar del Río

After recovering our energy with a nice breakfast, we will leave Viñales, and continue our discovery of this Caribbean island. To start the day off in style, our first destination is Pinar del Río , the capital of the province of the same name. Despite not being a very famous tourist destination like Havana or Varadero, the city has its own charm and offers an authentic view of Cuban life .

Pinar del Río is a typical Cuban town with a relaxed atmosphere and colonial architecture. The streets feature colorful buildings, tree-lined squares and a wide variety of shops and restaurants. The city is also known for the production of furniture and handicrafts. One of Pinar del Río's main attractions is the San Rosendo Cathedral , a majestic 19th-century church located in the center of town.

Cuban vibes

We will continue in the early afternoon towards Cienfuegos . Known as "The Pearl of the South" for its architectural beauty and its panoramic position on Cienfuegos Bay. The city has a strong musical tradition, with a large influence of genres such as Cuban son and salsa.

Facilities where we will stay: Hotel Meliá San Carlos or similar

Included: overnight stay with breakfast, transfer from Viñales to Pinar del Rio and up to Cienfuegos

Common fund: local transport and any entrance fees

Not included: meals and drinks

days 5, 6

Trinidad: its colors, the streets of Plaza Mayor and the Forest

The heart of Cuba

Today we leave Cienfuegos for our next destination: Trinidad . Here we will spend two days between color and crystal clear sea. The genuine streets of Trinidad, which are enlivened by colorful buildings and the warm welcome of its inhabitants, create an atmosphere that has no comparison: the music will fill our ears and our stomachs will be able to refresh themselves with fish and fresh fruit. These two evenings we could treat ourselves to dinners on the terraces, to enjoy an unforgettable panoramic view of the city.

Forest and waterfalls

In the afternoon it's time for adventure! Outside Trinidad, a natural park of rare beauty awaits us: Topes de Collantes . Here the humidity is very high, because we are in the real Cuban jungle , but the experience repays the inevitable sweat: giant butterflies, colorful hummingbirds, tropical plants. We will then head towards Caburnì , a surprising path for its dense vegetation and its views. We will cross the coffee plantations , passing by the traditional houses, up to the waterfall called the Salto del Caburni , full of natural pools in which we can take great dives or even just cool off. In the evening, I return to joyful Trinidad for dinner and... to take some salsa lessons along the lively streets of the centre.

Varadero: tropical paradise!

Caribbean beaches

Today's first stop is Santa Clara , a city closely linked to Ernesto Guevara, better known as El Che, Argentine guerrilla, doctor, writer and international icon of the Revolution. Right here, in Santa Clara, El Che defeated the dictator Batista, putting an end to the dictatorship. We will have the opportunity to visit the mausoleum which houses the tombs of Che Guevara and his revolutionary companions and where we can retrace the main stages of Cuba's modern history.

Then the Caribbean beaches await us that we dreamed of looking at the typical photos with white sand, palm trees and crystal clear water: we are in Varadero ! A white sandy beach 22 km long , no one can take away a nice day of relaxation. We only make a small pit stop while we reach it: we can choose to enter the Caves of Saturn or stop at Playa Coral (the coral beach) to do some snorkelling and admire them. Today we 100% enjoy the fantastic beaches and the Cuban sea.

White sand, turquoise waters, pretty kiosks for drinks and snacks, thatched umbrellas and tall palm trees... here we will have moments of pure relaxation. Transfer round trip by bus, open bar on board, buffet lunch in Cayo Blanco, snorkeling and free time on the beach: in short, we are really enjoying it today! Once back on land, all we have to do is wait for the right moment all together: no one can take a group photo at sunset over the sea!

Return to Havana

Return to the capital

Once in Havana, we will enjoy an excellent aperitif on the seafront - the Malecón. The famous seafront is perfect for seeing the pre-revolutionary style of the buildings, and eating something to choose from among the dozens and dozens of restaurants that accompany the walk. For those who want to rest their feet and try a typical experience, just negotiate the price and get on the famous ape-taxis , a sort of motorized carriage that doesn't go faster than 40km/h. Know that in Cuba you don't just drink cocktails: the most popular drink is beer , from the "Fuerte Bucanero" to the lightest, the "Cristal"... and here we can taste them all!

day 10

Discovering the city of Havana

Around Havana

Today we will spend the day discovering the places and history of the Cuban capital. The alternatives are many, our tour certainly cannot miss a stop at the Plaza de la Revolución where the faces of two very famous revolutionaries such as Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos stand out and where the majestic memorial to Jose Martì stands, another fundamental figure for the independence of the Caribbean island. From there we will be able to leave the city center a little further to reach the very particular neighborhood of Fusterlandia created by the artist Josè Fuster, where we will feel like we are entering a fairy tale while we will be surrounded by thousands of colorful mosaics.

The magic of Old Havana

We are ready to return to the heart of the city and enjoy the atmosphere of Habana Vieja, which we will explore on foot: legs on our shoulders and we set off on the walking tour. The entire neighborhood is a UNESCO heritage site and at every corner of the street there will be something to photograph: the typical pre-revolution American cars, the hotels that hosted the Arabian Nights parties during American prohibition, the Bacardi palace where the famous Rum was invented, the Payret cinema, the legendary Floridita restaurant. After walking through the main streets and squares, immersed in five centuries of colonial history reflected in the various architectural styles of Plaza de Armas, Plaza Vieja and Plaza de la Catedral, we can relax while sipping a good mojito at the Bodeguita del Medio , an iconic place in the city frequented in the past by Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Neruda. We can't leave this island without one last iconic local experience: a 2-hour ride in the colorful vintage cars!

If we are not yet tired of exploring it might be a good idea to reach the nearby Morro Castle , the highest point in the city, to enjoy the last sunset all together and discover the historic Cañonazo ceremony before reaching the restaurant for the last dinner all together.
